Nepal play Lanka in last match

KATHMANDU, DEC 23 - Nepal will take on Sri Lanka in what could
be a battle for a second place in the first South Asian Women’s Volleyball
Championship here at the National Sports Council covered ball on Tuesday.
Both Nepal and Sri Lanka
are joint second in the standings with two wins and a loss each while South
Asian powerhouse India are on top with three consecutive victories.
A win against Sri Lanka in
the five-nation round robin championship will see the hosts at least secure
second place and walk away with $ 1,000. Nepal coach Sudish Rimal said:
“India blew our hope of lifting the title but we are keen to finish second.”
Rimal however warns the task will not be easy and his girls’ will have to play
the best game in order to beat the opponent.
“They are highly
experienced than us and will test us to the limit. But we are ready for the
challenge and can come out winners if we play to the best of our abilities.”
India, who had begun the
day with similar points as Nepal and Sri Lanka secured pole position with a
26-24, 25-11, 25-19 win over the island nation on Monday.
Maldives ended their losing
streak in the tournament by defeating Bangladesh 25-17, 13-25, 25-23, 25-19.
The win left Maldives on fourth with three points. Bottom placed Bangladesh
have yet to open their account.
Sri Lanka, who defeated
Bangladesh in the tournament opener on Friday, recorded a straight sets 25-15,
25-15, 25-17 victory over Maldives in the early match. Bangladesh take on India
in the first match on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Nepal Volleyball
Association President Dan Bahadur Tamang informed that India have agreed to
host the second edition of the tournament next year.
