KATHMANDU, DEC 23 - Jiwan Katipaya,” a collection of essays by journalist Janakraj Sapkota was launched at Shilpee Theatre, Battisputali, yesterday. The book has a total of 22 essays which are divided into two sections. The section titled “Madhesh and Jiwan” has a total of seven essays, while “Sahar and Jiwan” has 15 essays.
“I came to Kathmandu to become an artist. But when I realised that I could touch more lives by becoming a journalist, I quit studying art and started this profession,” said Sapkota, who is also known as “the man in a hurry” among Nepali journalists.
Sapkota’s frequent travels to the Tarai region started with his trip to Nepalgunj with his mentor, senior journalist Kishor Nepal. “I loved my Madhesh travels and wrote in the newspapers about the lives of the people there, the places I went to and the experiences I had. But I felt that was not enough, so I decided to put my stories in this book,” added Sapkota.
The writer also shared some anecdotes from his life and disclosed that at one point he almost became a jogi after reading books by Jiddu Krishnamurti.
Kishor Nepal, CK Lal and Khagendra Neupane praised Sapkota’s book.
The book has been published by Lipi Books and is now available in the market for Rs 250.
